CFIA Seeks Comment on GM Soybean Application

May 15, 2009

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Health Canada (HC) are currently assessing a license application from BASF Canada for the environmental release of an herbicide-tolerant soybean variety. The application also proposes the use of the genetically modified (GM) soybean variety for livestock feed and food. The GM soybean resists imidazolinone herbicides. Data has been submitted in accordance with CFIA guidelines for assessment of plants with novel traits for unconfined release. CFIA now seeks comments on the application.
