Biodiversity and Agricultures: Today’s Challenges, Tomorrow’s Research for More Sustainable Farming
September 19, 2008 |
This international conference will be held in Montpellier, France at the Corum on November 4-5, 2008. It is aimed at European and international decision-makers and stakeholders to demonstrate the strategic importance of research on the impact of agriculture and biodiversity. There will also be an assessment of the consequences of biodiversity loss for agricultural activities as well as the impact of agriculture on biodiversity.
The Conference will be under the aegis of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This event is patronized by the French Ministry for Higher Education and Research and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. The French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) is coordinating the event, whose programme has been prepared by an international Scientific Committee chaired by Robert Barbault. During the conference, feedback from the preliminary events and panels will be provided by researchers and decision-makers on four main topics: (1) Ecosystem Services and Agriculture; Agriculture, Biodiversity and Society – the Footprint and the Drivers; (2) Agriculture and Biodiversity in Complex Landscapes – Pointers towards New Policies; (3) The Way forward for Science – What We Need to Know and How to Apply Knowledge to Improve the Situation.
Registration is open on the Conference’s web site at http://www.international.inra.fr/all_the_news/events_and_symposia/october_december_2008/biodiversity_
