Workshop on The Potential Benefit Of Transgenic Crops In Indonesia

A workshop for regulators and decision makers with the theme "Can Biotech Crops Support Sustainability of Indonesian Food Security?", will be conducted on October 14, 2008 at the Indonesia Ministry of Agriculture in Jakarta. The main objective is to facilitate decision-making process on adopting and regulating GM crops. The topics will cover socio-economic benefits of biotech crops in Indonesia, Indonesian needs of biotech products for food industries, the global status of biotech crops utilization and research activities, Indonesia biosafety regulation of biotech crops: prospect and challenges, and public perception of biotech crops in Indonesia. The event is organized by the Indonesian Center for Agricultural Biotechnology and Genetic Resources Research and Development (ICABIOGRAD), Indonesian Biotechnology Information Center (IndoBic) and Indonesian Society for Agricultural Biotechnology (PBPI) and supported by MSU, Program for Biosafety Systems (PBS) and Croplife Indonesia.
