EFSA Releases Assessment of GM Maize Bt11 × MIR162 × MIR604 × GA21
October 21, 2026| |
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) Panel on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO Panel) has released its Scientific Opinion on the safety of the genetically modified (GM) stacked maize event Bt11 × MIR162 × MIR604 × GA21 and its subcombinations, for food and feed uses, excluding cultivation within the European Union (EU).
Following the submission of dossier GMFF-2025-35594 under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003, the EFSA GMO Panel was asked to deliver a Scientific Opinion on renewing authorization for this GM maize stack. In their report, the GMO Panel states that it has previously evaluated the component events and their combinations, and that there is no evidence for new hazards, modified exposure, or scientific uncertainties that would alter the conclusions of previous risk assessments.
The GMO Panel's assessment did not identify any new information that raises safety concerns for human and animal health and the environment or would change the original conclusions.
For more details, read the Scientific Opinion in the EFSA Journal.
