IFAD and AfDB Signs MoU to Combat Poverty in Rural Africa

February 15, 2008

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their partnership as they work together to help alleviate poverty in Africa. The MoU will provide the framework for the two organizations to design and implement work programs in different sectors. These include interventions in the fields of agroprocessing, agribusiness, rural community empowerment and renewable energy.

The two organizations signed their first cooperation agreement in 1978. The cooperation has been instrumental in helping them mobilize cofinancing of more than US$2.4 billion for 35 projects.
