Pakistan Approves GM Soybean Imports
November 13, 2024 |
Pakistan announced the authorization for the import of genetically modified soybeans. The National Biosafety Committee has granted import licenses to 39 companies. The Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) lauded the move, stressing that it will aid in sourcing quality protein for feed.
The importation ban for GM soybeans was implemented in the country in the past years after reports of illegal and undeclared importation of the commodity. At present, the technical hurdles on the issue have been addressed by the importers with assistance from the PPA.
The achievement advances agricultural innovation and strengthens the foundation of the poultry industry, paving the way for future successes, according to a PPA member.
