5th Asian Short Course on Agribiotech, Biosafety Regulation, and Communication (ASCA5)

ISAAA Inc. will host the 5th Asian Short Course on Agribiotech, Biosafety Regulation and Communication (ASCA5) in Manila, Philippines on November 7-11, 2022. Registration is now open for interested participants.
The potential of agribiotechnology to contribute to sustainable agriculture depends on R&D as well as on the integration of other factors such as effective communication, science-based national regulatory frameworks, and an adequate understanding of international legal instruments. Strong collaboration among scientists, regulators, policy makers, and lawyers is important so that science and regulation can co-evolve and society can benefit from modern biotechnology while risks are minimized.
The short course is designed to enable participants to better understand the following topics:
- entire value chain related to research, development, commercialization, and trade of living modified organisms (LMOs);
- national and international legal instruments related to LMOs;
- effective communication of agribiotechnology and biosafety regulation; and
- science diplomacy in international negotiations.
ISAAA Global Coordinator Dr. Mahaletchumy Arujanan, ISAAA Inc. Executive Director Dr. Rhodora Romero-Aldemita, Murdoch University Professor Michael Jones, Public Research and Regulation Initiative Executive Secretary Dr. Lucia de Souza, and other international experts will facilitate the discussions. The short course is co-organized with BioTrust Global, US Soybean Export Council, US Grains Council, Murdoch University, the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture, Outreach Network for Gene Drive Research, and the Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre.
The participant's fee of US$1,000.00 covers accommodation, transport during visits to biotech farms and research institutes, exclusive access to the workshop, and print and online training kit.
