First Xtend® Soybean Cultivars Hit the Market in Brazil

May 4, 2022

The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) and Fundação Meridional have launched the first soybean cultivars with Xtend® (XTD) technology in Brazil to celebrate Embrapa's 49 years. The soybean cultivars BRS 2553XTD and BRS 2558XTD, both tolerant to glyphosate and dicamba herbicides, are excellent refuge options for Intacta 2Xtend® (I2X) technology.

BRS 2553XTD can be used in refuge areas for cultivars with I2X technology. It produces more pods, ensuring excellent productivity. BRS 2553XTD is resistant to Phytophthora root rot, a disease caused by a soil pathogen that has brought high economic losses to infected crops. It is also resistant to stem canker, frog eye spot, and common soybean mosaic, moderately resistant to powdery mildew, and tolerant to stem necrosis virus.

BRS 2558XTD can also be used in refuge areas for cultivars with I2X technology. It has excellent productivity, with an average potential above 5,000 kilos per hectare. It is also resistant to Phytophthora root rot, stem canker, common soybean mosaic, and moderately resistant to frog eye spot. BRS 2558XTD has an average protein content of around 40%, which is useful for the animal feed agroindustry.
