Report on Biotech for Africa

November 23, 2007

The report "Freedom to Innovate: Biotechnology in Africa's Development" by the High-Level African Panel on Modern Biotechnology highlights the role of biotechnology in transforming African economies. It challenges Africa's heads of state and government, the very sector which requested the study, to seriously consider the importance of a coordinated approach in promoting technological innovation in development.

Authored by Calestous Juma and Ismail Serageldin of the Science, Technology, and Globalization Project, the report discusses what is needed to build the required capacity to harness and apply biotechnologies and the necessary measures needed to address these concerns.  The report is available online at http://www.belfercenter.org/publication/17382/freedom_to_innovate.html
