CAST Issue Paper Discusses Regulatory Barriers to AgBiotech

March 28, 2018

The Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST) has released a new Issue Paper titled Regulatory Barriers to the Development of Innovative Agricultural Biotechnology by Small Business and Universities.

The paper reviews the current regulatory system in the United States for genetically engineered crops, compares it with those of major trading partners, and considers the effects it has on agricultural biotechnology.

Led by Task Force Chair Alan McHughen, the experts show that despite foundational contributions requiring considerable public resource commitments for GE crop innovation and development, academic institutions and small private entities have been almost entirely excluded from the agricultural biotechnology market.

The CAST Issue Paper is available for download at the CAST website.
