USDA FAS-GAIN Releases Agri-biotech Updates in Portugal
December 14, 2016 |
The USDA FAS Global Agricultural Information Network released updates on the status of agricultural biotechnology in Portugal.
According to the report, Portugal is the second largest grower of biotech corn in the European Union following Spain. Portugal conforms to EU regulations on biotech crops. It allows biotech crops cultivation while preserving farmers and consumers' choice. Portugal's biotech corn hectarage declined in 2016, which is attributed to tight crop margins of corn caused by low market price.
