Agroscope Seeks Approval for Testing of Biotech Potatoes in Switzerland

November 26, 2014

The Swiss Agricultural Research Institute, Agroscope, has applied for a request at the Federal Office for the Environment (BAFU) to test planting of biotech potatoes with resistance to phytophthora fungal infection. Agroscope wants to test whether these potatoes are resistant to the common strain of this pathogen present in Switzerland. Once BAFU gives permission to test the biotech crop, the test will commence in 2015 and will finish in 5 years.
