CAST Annual Meeting Tackles "Genetic Engineering for Better Life"
June 13, 2013 |
The 15th Annual Meeting of Chinese Association for Science and Technology (CAST) was held from May 25 to May 26, 2013 in Guiyang City, China. Chinese Society of Biotechnology (CSBT) and China Biotechnology Information Center (ChinaBIC) co-hosted the International Forum on Biotechnology, Health and Agriculture in the meeting. The Forum, by taking "genetic engineering, for our better life" as its theme, aimed to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the discovery of DNA Double Helix and the 40th anniversary of the birth of genetic engineering.
Dr. Randy Hautea, Global Coordinator of the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA), chaired the forum and reviewed the application of GM crops for addressing current and future global issues. Scientists from Sudan and China discussed current status of agricultural biotechnology R&D in their respective countries. Dr. John Duesing from DuPont Pioneer, USA introduced how the high oleic soybean, a biotechnology crop, contributes to better foods.
