The 50 Pact - Renewing Borlaug's Promise
June 13, 2013 |
The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), the Indian Council on Agricultural Research (ICAR), and the Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA) are organizing the International Conference on "The 50 Pact - Renewing Borlaug's Promise" on 16-17 August 2013 in Delhi, India. The event will mark the 50th Anniversary of Norman Borlaug's first visit to India and aims to stimulate a new vision of success for agriculture in South Asia. It hopes to firm up existing partnerships on food security in South Asia that are being brought together for an integrated approach.
The launch of the 50 Pact mobilizes stakeholders to find inspiration for collective action in Borlaug's honor. The forum will focus on innovation and collaboration as the driver of regional solutions to food insecurity and in strengthening the agriculture value chain in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Pakistan. The world class scientists who had an opportunity to work with Dr. Norman Borlaug will share their experience on the green revolution, among them Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, and Drs. Clive James, Gurdev Khush, Sanjaya Rajaram, Thomas Lumpkin, and Surinder K. Vasal.
