NACGRAB Director: GM Crops are Safe

Biotech crops are safe, said National Center for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (NACGRAB) Director, Wasiu Odofin, during an interview. He explained that many countries have been using genetically modified food and feed and if these are not safe many would have died. GM food are now in all markets and we are all consuming them in various forms.
The director also emphasized the role of gene banks such as NACGRAB that store genetic traits and conserve genetic resources. It is the only Federal Government institution with that function in Nigeria, and thus they strive to be in good shape in case of any future need. For instance, if a catastrophe strikes Nigeria and wipes off maize fields, NACGRAB will quickly provide seed samples for farmers to multiply again.
