China's MoA Updates "GMO Trainers"

July 8, 2011

A training workshop was held in Shijiazhuang City by the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) from June 24 to 25, 2011 to improve the management of genetically modified organisms (GMO). More than 200 participants/trainees from research institutes, universities, and administration sectors from all over China were updated to become "GMO trainers".

Topics included basic knowledge on biotech and biosafety, food safety, environmental safety, GMO management, detection and surveillance, R&D global and domestic status, and communication skills to address biotech issues with the public.

MoA encouraged the participants to use multi-media platforms such as television, radio, newspapers and the Internet to disseminate accurate information about GMO particularly to the general public. Other communication channels such as workshops, expert interviews, and exhibitions were also suggested.
