GM Maize MIR162 Approved for Food in Russia and the Customs Union

Genetically modified (GM) maize MIR 162 (SYN 1R162-4) resistant to lepidopteran pests, developed and marketed by Syngenta has been approved for food in Russia, Belarus and Kazahstan, following the new Customs Union among these three countries. Positive expert opinion on the developers application was submitted on 28 April 2011 and was given the food approval certificate on 29 June 2011.
