Bangladesh Tackles Strategies to Advance Agricultural Development

The Bangladesh Ministry of Food and Disaster Management will convene the Bangladesh Food Security Investment Forum 2010 on May 26-27, 2010. Hosted by the Government of Bangladesh with the support of the United States Agency for International Development, the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies, the International Food Policy Research Institute, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, among others, the forum will discuss and coordinate investment plans, priorities, and strategies to advance agricultural development and achieve food and nutrition security in Bangladesh.

Policymakers, local and international researchers, diplomats, and representatives from various organizations will discuss six broad topics, among them include agricultural growth and productivity of crops, adaptation to climate change, food utilization and nutrition security.

International experts prepared six research papers, one for each priority area identified by the government, as background documents during the forum. These summarize major opportunities to accelerate efforts in achieving food security.
