Seeds of Aflatoxin-Resistant Corn Lines Available

May 28, 2010

Six new inbred lines of aflatoxin-resistant corn which were found to be free from seed-borne diseases foreign to the United States are now available for further development towards commercialization. These six inbred lines named TZAR101, 102, 103, 104, 105, and 106 were developed by Agricultural Research Service (ARS) plant pathologist Robert Brown, in cooperation with Abebe Menkir of International Institute of Tropical Agriculture.

The seeds of these pre-tested corn lines can be obtained from the ARS North Central Regional Plant Introduction Station in Ames and planted in the United States for further evaluation for resistance to aflatoxin. Evaluation findings will be used to assess the value of these lines in breeding for resistance to aflatoxin.
