Knowledge from Science to Societies: The KNOSSOS Project
November 11, 2011 |
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) announced the new web platform that aims to develop the understanding of environmental scientific research among policymakers. This new platform called KNOSSOS project is funded by the European Union. KNOSSOS echoes the European Commission's position on the future of science in Europe, and the EU Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik's own assertion that "bridging the gap between science and policy is not a technical issue. It is a political, economic, social and cultural issue."
KNOSSOS project manager Thierry Lucas said at the launch: "We need greater communication between researchers and policy makers. Enhancing the communication channels between the two is the starting point of KNOSSOS…By taking stock of environmental research, the KNOSSOS team is able to produce policy briefs every three months, and combined with policy dialogues, we can take steps towards bridging the gap between science and policy."
