Vietnam, UK Cooperate in New Rice Variety Development

Vietnam's Ministry of Science and Technology signed a memorandum of understanding in cooperation with the United Kingdom's Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) to work on rice genomics research. A key output will be the sequencing of genomes of new varieties selected for high quality and yield potential, tolerance to submergence, salinity, drought, and resistance to pests and diseases. The tie-up with BBSRC will enable Vietnamese scientists to gain access to technologies and benefit from technical training.
