GM Notifications in the EU
January 22, 2010 |
Notifications on the deliberate release into the environment of genetically modified (GM) crops for non-commercial use in Europe have been posted online. For January 2010, these include:
- Maize lines tested by Szent István University in Hungary. The lines express the glyphosate-N-acetyltransferase (gat4621) and Cry1F genes and a modified maize acetolactate synthase (zm-hra) gene for resistance to lepidopteran pests
- Transgenic potato lines in Sweden developed by Plant Science Sweden AB. The expression granule bound starch synthase (GBSS) is inhibited in the potato lines for higher amylopectin starch yield
- Glyphosate-resistant sugarbeet in Sweden developed by Syngenta Seeds AB and in Slovakia (developed by Plant Production Research Center Piestany)
- Maize tolerant to glyphosate in Czech Republic developed by Limagrain Central Europe
See details of the notifications at http://gmoinfo.jrc.it/gmp_browse.aspx, a website managed by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission on behalf of the Directorate General for the Environment.
