Russia Allows More Centers to Do Safety Assessment

The Russian government has approved Decree 984 to allow other institutes to do safety assessment of genetically modified (GM) food and raw food produced from GM sources in the country. The Institute of Nutrition at the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences used to be the sole entity to carry out this task. Three new authorized centers are:
- Federal Center of Hygiene and Epidemiology
- G.N. Gabrichevsky Moscow Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology
- State Scientific Center of Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology (Obolensk, Moscow Region)
