March 6, 2009 |
The International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications' (ISAAA) knowledge sharing initiative network composed of the Global Knowledge Center on Crop Biotechnology and the Biotechnology Information Centers (BICs) held its Annual Meeting in Manila, Philippines. The network members in Asia (Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam), were joined by colleagues from Africa (Egypt and Kenya) to discuss plans for science communication initiatives in support of crop biotechnology and in fostering ISAAA's mission - Knowledge, Technology, and Poverty Alleviation. Highlight of the meeting was a visit to farmers' fields in Anao, Mexico, Pampanga to see biotech maize, the first commercialized GM crop in the country.
ISAAA's information network located in strategic countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America fosters sharing of knowledge and exchange of experiences on crop biotechnology.
