Alien species are plants, animals and microorganisms that have been moved by humans to new environments outside of the range they occupy naturally. A comprehensive overview of alien species in Europe including their impacts and consequences for the environment and society was documented by DAISIE (Delivering Alien Invasive Species Inventory for Europe) provides new information on biological invasions in Europe. These alien species often cause significant loss in the economic value, biological diversity and function of invaded ecosystems. The report provides crucial information for planning measures for early detection, eradication and control methods.
