Jordan Eyes Biotech and Biofuels

November 28, 2008

Jordan welcomes new technologies that will help increase farm production provided they are proven to be safe for humans and the environment. This was stressed by Jordanian Minister of Agriculture Rady AlTarawna during the third conference on biotechnology held in Amman and organized by the Technical Consultancy Center. He also voiced support for the production of biofuels from non food crops.

Experts from India, Brazil, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain shared experiences and views on new technology, particularly with regards biofuels. The Brazilian Ambassador  to Jordan Fernando Jose Marroni de Abreu mentioned that Brazil and Jordan signed an agreement to cooperate on biofuel  production. The participants raised the need for more public awareness regarding the applications of biotechnology.
