Bolivia Approves Planting of GM Soybean Intacta

Bolivia has approved planting genetically modified (GM) soybean Intacta MON87701 x MON89788. Alan Lisperguer, the Minister of Environment and Water, announced the resolution during the National Summit on Land and Territory, Production, and Environment in San Julián.

The production of Intacta soybeans in Bolivia will be exclusively for plant additives in manufacturing biofuels. The minister said that the approval of the GM soybean event is important to address the climate crisis. He emphasized that monitoring and control will be carried out to ensure “compliance with the exclusive use for the production of plant additives.” He also clarified that the government aims to benefit, above all, small producers with a model that implements biotechnology to allow everyone access to different resources.
