Paper Discusses "Drivers of Change in Global Agriculture"

February 8, 2008

Despite improvements in agriculture due to agricultural intensification, globalization and increased world trade, societies continue to exhibit differences in their abilities to address food security and environmental protection. This observation is forwarded by Peter Hazell of Imperial College in the United Kingdom and Stanley Wood of the International Food Policy Research Institute in a paper “Drivers of change in global agriculture”.

The paper, published in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B-Biological Science, presents a country x farming typology to determine linkages between human needs, agriculture and the environment. It provides options for addressing challenges related to food security, land use, and ecosystem service.
