EFSA GMO Panel Concludes GM Maize DP910521 As Safe As Conventional Counterpart
August 14, 2024 |
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) GMO Panel has released its Scientific Opinion on the safety of genetically modified (GM) insect resistant and herbicide tolerant maize DP910521, for import, processing, and food and feed uses within the European Union (EU) and does not include cultivation.
Following the submission of application GMFF-2021-2473 under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 from Corteva Agriscience, the EFSA GMO Panel was asked to deliver a Scientific Opinion on the safety of GM maize DP910521. In their Scientific Opinion, the GMO Panel did not identify safety concerns regarding the toxicity and allergenicity of the Cry1B.34, PAT, and PMI proteins as expressed in maize DP910521, and no evidence was found that the genetic modification would change the overall safety of maize DP910521.
The GMO Panel concludes that maize DP910521 is as safe as its comparator and the tested non-GM reference varieties concerning potential effects on human and animal health and the environment.
