Book Tackles Role of Biotech and Other Tools in the Future of Asia's Food Security
April 17, 2024 |
Despite being the world's largest producer of food staples like rice and vegetable oil, food security is a critical issue in Asia. World Scientific released a new book titled Food Security Issues in Asia edited by food security expert Dr. Paul Teng from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
The book addresses the food security challenge by exploring the impact of COVID-19 on food security and future trends in production and consumption of key foods in Asia. It also examines how China and India, Asia's most populous countries, approach food security. The book uniquely explores often neglected topics like nutrition security, food waste reduction, and novel food sources. Additionally, it analyzes the role of various technologies, including digital tools, biotechnology, and urban agriculture, that will shape Asia's future food security. This information is valuable for policymakers, researchers, and anyone interested in understanding Asia's role in the global food system.
