India Announces Star Colleges in Life Sciences Initiative

In response to the growing need for high quality manpower in life sciences and the biotechnology sector, India’s Department of Biotechnology has announced an initiative to support colleges and university departments offering undergraduate education to achieve ' Star College’ status. 

This initiative to make education world class provides support to (1) improve knowledge and skills of teachers in basic life sciences and specialized techniques, (2) provide access to specialized infrastructure to students, (3) assure consumables, reagents and chemicals for students, (4) improve curriculum that enhances creativity, (5) provide access to summer school for exposure to platform biotechnologies and critical thinking and, (6) make available knowledge banks, books and journals including e-journal facilities.
