Review Highlights Latest In Vitro Models on Neurodegenerative Diseases

November 15, 2023

Researchers from Spain reviewed the different in vitro models used to study neurodegenerative diseases. They also analyzed how the latest techniques imitate the neural tissue environment that may help with the treatment of the diseases.

The causes and solutions to neurodegenerative diseases are difficult to identify. This is due to the neural tissue's location and complexity, which makes it challenging to study. To help with this issue, researchers from various institutions in Spain studied the different in vitro models and their contributions to the field of neurodegenerative diseases.

The methods discussed in the review consist of scaffold-based cell culture, scaffold-free models, 3D printing to build 3D models, organ-on-a-chip approach, and integration of 3D printing with 3D cell cultures and microfluidic platforms.
