Study Shows Acceptability of GM Foods among Pakistani Consumers

Researchers at CIMMYT Pakistan conducted a survey to know the consumers' acceptability of GM foods in the country. The results are published in GM Crops and Food.

The researchers interviewed 320 consumers from Pakistan in 2013 and found that urban consumers have more knowledge about GM foods than those in rural areas. The female respondents showed higher acceptance to GM foods, compared to the male consumers. Furthermore, the older consumers are more willing to accept GM foods than the younger ones. Consumers with higher incomes aslo had more acceptability of GM foods. According to the consumers, they would be more willing to accept GM foods if the prices of the products are low.
