US Govt Call for Sequencing 1 Million Human Genomes

The United States is planning to analyze genetic data from over 1 million Americans as part of a new initiative to comprehend human disease and develop medicines tailor-fit to one's genetic makeup.

According to National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director, Dr. Francis Collins, the near-term goal of the initiative is to develop more and better treatments for cancer. For the longer term, the project aims to provide information on how to individualize treatment for different diseases.

President Barrack Obama has proposed $215 million in his 2016 budget for the initiative.
