
Bangladesh Ag Minister Calls for Reforms and Adoption of Frontier Technologies in Agriculture

Bangladesh Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury highlighted the need for agriculture reforms with the adoption of frontier technology like biotechnology, molecular breeding and various farm mechanization operations during her speech as the Chief Guest on the occasion of Agriculturists Day in Dhaka on February 14, 2014. She appreciated the role of agriculturists of the country in providing sufficient food for its doubled population, at a land area, halved after over 42 years of the country's independence.
She said, green revolution and now the gene revolution are the milestones for the transformation of agriculture to the present state. She hoped that agriculturists and farmers will work hand in hand to uplift agriculture through the adoption of frontier technology like biotechnology amongst others for better yield, profitability and for sustained environment and ecosystems.
Agriculturist Dr. M. A. Razzaque MP, the former Minister for Food and Disaster Management emphasized on modern agricultural technology adoption to combat perrennial flood, cyclone, drought, salinity and other natural calamities to save the farmers from great loss. Agriculturist AFM Bahauddin, MP and Agriculturist Abdul Mannan, MP delivered their thoughts on adoption and application of modern tools and techniques of agriculture for sustainable, environment friendly modern technology for food security and poverty alleviation. The event was attended by around 2500 agriculturists from various sectors of the country.
