EFSA: GMOs Authorized in Europe are Safe

Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle, Director of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has stated that all genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) which EFSA has evaluated are safe. Geslain-Lanéelle added however that she can only verify the safety of GMOs which were authorized for marketing in Europe as they underwent rigid scientific evaluation.
Established in 2002, EFSA is the keystone of European Union (EU) risk assessment regarding food and feed safety. In close collaboration with national authorities and in open consultation with its stakeholders, EFSA provides independent scientific advice and clear communication on existing and emerging risks.
