Biotech Crop Research Projects in Kenya Seek to Synergize Communication Efforts
September 19, 2012 |
Representatives of six ongoing biotech crop research projects have called for a common synergistic communication initiatives in Kenya. The rallying call was made during a meeting to share experiences, challenges and explore new joint initiatives by ongoing biotech projects in the country. The meeting which was organized by the communications team of the Virus Resistant Cassava (VIRCA) Project on 14th September in Nairobi also called for joint activities by the ongoing research projects.
The workshop – a first of its kind in Kenya had participants from various projects currently ongoing in the country such as the Water Efficient Maize for Africa (WEMA) Project, Sweet Potato Action for Security and Health in Africa (SASHA), Improved Maize for African Soils (IMAS), Bt Cotton Project and the Drought Tolerant Maize Project. ISAAA AfriCenter which is currently coordinating the communications strategy for the VIRCA project in Kenya has been tasked with the role of creating consensus among all the biotech crop projects so as to operationalize the numerous possible joint activities that the projects could participate in.
