Argentina to Increase Maize Export
September 19, 2012 |
Argentina's Minister of Agriculture Norberto Yauhar has announced that the country will export additional 2.75 million tonnes of maize from its 2011/12 crop. This will increase the amount of maize to be exported by the country to 16.45 million tonnes.
The Minister also explained the prospects for the upcoming harvest in Argentina, noting that the outlook for both rainfall and plantings of maize and soybeans in the country were very positive. He added that Argentina has already earmarked 15 million tons of maize and 5 million tons of wheat for export for the 2012/13 season. Yauhar further noted that Argentina maintains reserves of one million tons of maize and one million tons of wheat.
Argentina is the world's second biggest maize exporter and was responsible for roughly 15% of the world's maize exports in the last three years.
