Quadruple Helix Spurs Quantum Leap
The "Quadruple Helix", which involves the cooperation of the academia, the industry, the government and the people, will help spur the country's quantum leap, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak at the Innovation Agency Malaysia's (AIM) Innovation Malaysia Tour 2012 at the Tunku Abdul Rahman College, Kuala Lumpur.
The Prime Minister said three aspects would be emphasized for this purpose: increasing productivity, empowering innovation and encouraging creativity to achieve the national vision. "This is referred to as the ecosystem. If we want to ensure successful innovations, we will not achieve what we had set out without the support of the ecosystem. I believe many findings are gathering dust on the lab shelves and research centers have not reached the commercialization stage."
Razak also witnessed the signing of a strategic alliance agreement between AIM and 26 of the country's top public and private universities, research institutes and companies on the setting up of the National Technology Commercialisation Office (NTCO). The NTCO will speed up the commercialization process of intellectual properties developed by Malaysian academia, enable potential investors to identify innovations they would like to commercialize, and create wealth for the country especially in highly critical sectors such as health care, agriculture, telecommunications, and education.
