Low Budgets, Unreasonable Mechanism Hinder Science Development in Vietnam
Vietnamese Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan in a news article pointed out that government spending on science and technology increased from 5,890 billion dong in 2006 to 14,442 billion dong in 2011.
However, the minister opined that the amount at 0.5 to 0.6 percent of the country's GDP is still among the lowest levels in the region and the world. Minister Quan together with other scientists including Professor Nguyen Van Hieu, disclosed important strategies to increase funding support for science and technology in the country. Investment in food and agriculture as well as in science and technology they said, should be increased and directed towards strategic projects for Vietnam's progress.
