FAS-GAIN Report on Taiwan Biotechnology
October 29, 2010 |
Food and Agriculture Services (FAS)-GAIN reports Taiwan's Biotechnology and Other New Production Technologies in a 13 page document. It describes how Taiwan is making progress in the establishment of biotech regulations in the country. The country has completed a draft regulation that focus on the commercial production of biotech products. The draft is currently under review by the Council of Agriculture. Taiwan has also notified the WTO to extend its regulatory scope to other biotech crops beyond corn and soybeans, and has taken steps to amend the Patent Law for intellectual property rights protection for biotech products. It is anticipated that ornamental biotech fishes are the first biotech products that will get to the market.
