Syngenta Builds Seeds Processing Plant in Java

October 29, 2010

Syngenta Indonesia has started building a new seeds processing plant in Pasuruan, East Java with a starting investment of US $26 million. The new facility, which is expected to start operating by the 2nd half of 2010, will initially have the capacity to dry, condition, pack and warehouse 5,700 metric tons of seeds.

"It is estimated that these farmers' net incomes will increase by 12-16%, as compared to what they would receive for normal commercial planting of corn and rice," said Mr. Adi Gunawan, Country Head of Syngenta's Seeds business in Indonesia. "Syngenta's new seeds processing plant will help to improve the welfare of farmers and the surrounding community."

This facility serves as a contribution to the modernization of Indonesia's agricultural infrastructure, which is vital to the nation's capacity to grow and distribute crops to achieve food security.
