President Hu: China Will Strengthen Modern S&T Development

"Science and technology are the basis of building an innovative country, speeding up the transformation of economic development… China should vigorously develop modern science and technology by developing high quality, efficient, and safe agriculture and related bio-industries; and ensuring security of food and major agricultural products." These thoughts were forwarded by Chinese president Hu Jintao during the 15th Academician Conference of the Chinese Academy of Sciences as well as the 10th Academician Conference of the Chinese Academy of Engineering on June 7, 2010 in Beijing.
The President also stressed that China will fully develop advanced breeding techniques to improve the quality, yield and disease resistance of agricultural products. He said that this will assure sustainable development and competitiveness of the nation's agricultural sector.
