Nigeria Signs Biosafety Law, Joins League of Biotech Countries |
Nigeria has joined the league of biotechnology countries when President Goodluck Jonathan signed the National Biosafety Agency Bill on Monday, April 21, 2015. In the news release signed by the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Biotechnology Development Agency, Prof. Lucy Jumeyi Ogbadu said that the National Biosafety Act is crucial in the management of modern biotechnology in Nigeria. She said that the Act would create more employment and boost food production if given good attention by government.

Sweet potatoes from all over the world naturally contain genes from Agrobacterium, according to researchers from the University of Ghent and the International Potato Institute (CIP) in their study published at Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS).

ISAAA's Network of Biotechnology Information Centers (BICs) held its 15th Annual Meeting at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, on April 15-16, 2015. The meeting brought together 29 member representatives from 10 countries in Burkina Faso, East and Central Africa, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, and Uganda.
