New Tool Predicts TALEN Binding Sites Accurately
January 17, 2024 |
Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics researchers developed a new online tool called TANDIS to predict where TALENs can bind to DNA. The statistical model is published in Mathematical Biology and Bioinformatics.
TALENs, short for transcription activator-like effector nucleases, are protein combinations used as gene editing tools. TANDIS works by continually learning from known binding sites, allowing it to make accurate predictions. Compared to similar tools, TANDIS is more accurate than TALE-NT, which sacrifices accuracy for speed, and just as accurate as TALENoffer, which is more complicated. Ultimately, TANDIS's simple design makes it a strong choice for predicting TALEN binding and potentially even understanding how TALENs interact with DNA.
