Frontier cutting edge technology such as biotechnology was a key message of speakers during the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Bangladesh Agricultural University on August 18, 2011. Member of Parliament Matiur Rahman noted the efforts of the university to update its curricula to address the new fields of biotechnology and environmental sciences. Vice Chancellor Md Rafiqul Hoque said that he gave priority to developing contemporary sciences like biotechnology to enable the University to become a center of excellence and advance research.
Around 3000 students, teachers, scientists, policy makers, farmers and agricultural stakeholders attended the event. Other activities during the celebration were a seminar, exhibition, tree planting, farmers' rally, and distribution of agricultural materials for planting and propagation.
