July 15, 2011 |
ISAAA releases a new document "Bt Cotton Events & Hybrids in India, 2002 to 2010" the second volume in the series of publications to mark the 10th year of Bt cotton cultivation in India in 2011. The series "Celebrating a Decade of Bt Cotton in India" features comprehensive overview of adoption, spread and socio-economic and farm level impact of Bt cotton in India from 2002 to 2011. The first document "Bt Cotton in India: A Multipurpose Crop" was released in May 2011 and is available at http://www.isaaa.org/kc/cropbiotechupdate/article/default.asp?ID=7758
The new short document is a user-friendly, comprehensive, and rich source of information on the approval of events and Bt cotton hybrids in India - the first biotech cotton crop to be approved in India in 2002. It includes authoritative statistics on the number of events as well as the number of Bt cotton hybrids and companies offering approved Bt cotton hybrids from 2002, the first year of its commercialization. The document also features charts and figures on the deployment of approved Bt cotton events/hybrids/variety region-wise and by companies as well as new events that are undergoing field testing and pending approval for commercialization in near future.
The series is produced by researchers of the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA). For a copy of the publication contact b.choudhary@cgiar.org or visit ISAAA India Biotech Information Center at http://www.isaaa.org/india.
