Guidance Document for GM Plants Containing Stacked Transformation Events Issued
August 3, 2007 |
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) Scientific Panel on Genetically Modified (GM) Organisms issued a Guidance Document for the risk assessment of GM plants containing stacked transformation events. Gene stacking incorporates two or more related or unrelated traits in a variety to improve the trait stability and/ or to increase its market value. The document is a guide for risk assessment of genetically modified plants containing such stacked transformation events that were derived through conventional breeding. The risk assessment for new events should take into account “the potential receiving environment” which would include other GM crop events incorporated into sexually compatible species.
The downloadable document will be used when reviewing and updating EFSA’s current Guidance Document for risk assessment of genetically modified plants and derived food and feed.
