Quality Protein Maize Manual

June 20, 2008

The International Maize and Improvement Center (CIMMYT) has published “Breeding Quality Protein Maize (QPM): Protocols for developing QPM cultivars", a manual intended for maize breeders who would like to start developing QPM varieties. Quality protein maize contains higher levels of the essential amino acids tryptophan and lysine. Several breeding protocols, successfully used by CIMMYT for two decades of developing QPM, are presented in the manual. The manual also contains a brief backgrounder on the genetics of QPM.
