Canada to Support Ethiopian Agriculture

February 29, 2008

The Post-Harvest Management to Improve Livelihoods Project (PHMIL) of Canada represented by Minister of National Defense Peter MacKay announced a $3 million fund for the Nova Scotia Agricultural College (NSAC) to support Ethiopian agriculture. Minister MacKay said, “The people of Nova Scotia should be immensely proud of the contribution overseas by the students and teachers in our community. Their dedication to the well-being of those less fortunate exhibits the best of what it means to be Canadian.”

The project aims to improve and increase the quality and availability as well as commercialization of local agricultural products in Ethiopia. NSAC's pool of agriculture experts in agriculture and environment will be involved in increasing the capacity of Ethiopian agricultural teaching institutions and initiatives to transfer agricultural technologies to the rural areas.
